West Coast Tomato Growers was experiencing more claims than they expected. This increased risk threatened to send them in a direction where their loss experience was going to push them into a premium threshold that would be detrimental to their bottom line. They needed to manage their risk internally in order to avoid the crippling cost of increased premiums.
Getting to the root of the problem.
By focusing on better hiring practices, we were able to partner with human resources to manage risk from unqualified personnel. We pushed to get the insurance carrier to perform and provide more risk management services – resulting in 16 visits last year vs. the 6 from the year before. We held claims meetings to make sure reserves were being set appropriately and that the management of the claim was fair.
Proof that it works.
The overall experience the client had with us was one of increased engagement that helped keep claims costs down and resulted in an overall 14% rate decrease on their insurance costs. Our support to their human resources team helped this client hire an additional key HR employee. Empowering them to manage their employees, and their risk, more closely.
