Here's How You Can Supercharge Your Company Culture With an Awesome Benefits Plan
The statistics are grim when it comes to company culture and employee engagement at companies. Studies show that employees are increasingly focused on the culture of companies and that money alone is not enough to allure them.
  • According to a Gallup poll statistic, only 32% of employees say they feel engaged at their company.
  • Another Gallup study revealed only 18% of managers had the experience and expertise required for their job.
  • 50% of employees have left a job because of poor management
  • A Glassdoor survey revealed 49% of respondents would recommend their company to friends.
The unifying theme behind these statistics is poor company culture. Every one of these observations points to indicators of a weak work atmosphere.

The implications for companies with problems like these are huge. Everything from recruiting, to production, to the quality of work is affected by poor company culture. Furthermore, as younger people are entering the workforce it's evident they are looking for more than money as compensation. They are demanding to work at companies with positive and dynamic cultures.

Your Employees Today
In the "old days", managers and owners believed that paying people more money was enough of an incentive to keep them at a company. However, millennials, who make up the majority of today's emerging workforce, have expectations beyond money.

Glassdoor surveyed millennial employees, and the results were striking.
  • 80% consider the culture of a company before they think about the money
  • Millennials would rather earn less money at a company they love than more in a poor company culture
  • Millennials value opportunities for growth over pay and benefits
  • Millennials aren't afraid to leave a job.
The writing is on the wall that you must have a positive company culture if you want to recruit the top talent in the marketplace.

What You Can Do To Improve Things At Your Company
Offering more money isn't going to win people to your company. They want to work in a community. So, here are a few simple steps you can take to begin rebooting your company culture.
  • First, make sure your leadership team is on board.
  • Create a questionnaire for your current employees, asking them what they like about your company and what they would like to see changed.
  • If you offer employment to a candidate, and they refuse it for a job at another company, ask them what it is about the other company that helped them make their decisions. This tactic is tricky because you have to get the person to open up to you, but the answers will be invaluable to you
  • Review and boost your benefits package with benefits that matter to your employees. Health insurance, life insurance, and a retirement plan will always be at the top of the list. Look beyond those and learn what else they might like to have.
